Cold Galvanized Steel Pipe For Water
Cold-dip galvanized plumbing pipe is an electrochemical process in which the workpiece is used as the cathode and zinc is used as the anode. Then, electricity is applied, and the current drives the zinc ions to deposit on the surface, thus forming a galvanized layer. However, the galvanized layer of the water pipe produced by this process is thinner, and its service life is much shorter than that of hot-dip galvanized pipes.
What Other Problems Can Galvanized Water Pipes Cause?
Galvanizing isn’t a permanent solution. After prolonged use, the internal zinc coating will gradually flake off, causing the pipes to rust. This can easily lead to bacterial growth in drains, causing the water to turn yellow and slowing the flow. This problem is more severe in acidic or alkaline environments. Furthermore, old galvanized pipes can release accumulated lead into the water, which can negatively impact the health of users.
