The production of SSAW pipes using the spiral welding technique is one of the most efficient and cost-effective methods available. 

Typically, a helical submerged arc weld is utilized in the production of spiral welded pipe, which is made from steel coil. 

The configuration of spiral welded pipe mills enables a considerable degree of flexibility, which makes it possible to manufacture a broad variety of pipe sizes and wall thicknesses.

Difference Between SSAW Pipe and LSAW Pipe



1.SSAW pipe and LSAW pipe are both SAW (submerged arc welded) pipe types commonly used for oil and gas transportation.

2. The different welding methods lead to the variation of SAW pipes divided into LSAW and SSAW. The submerged arc process produces a high current density, preventing the flux layer from rapidly losing heat and concentrating in the welding area.

3. The steel coil is helically welded like a spiral in the SSAW, so that the coil (belt) takes on the shape of a pipe.
The welding of the straight seam submerged arc welding pipe is longitudinal welding, that is, the steel (hot rolled coil) is rolled into the pipe, and the weld is longitudinally-welded.

4. The direction of the weld will have different effects on the pressure bearing capacity and the degree of manufacturing difficulty. LSAW is used in medium and high pressure conditions, while SSAW is used in low pressure conditions. The production cost of LSAW tubes is higher than that of SSAW tubes.

5. The strength of spiral steel pipe is generally higher than that of straight steel pipe. The main production process is submerged arc welding. SSAW can use the same width of billets to produce different pipe diameters, but also can use narrower billets to produce larger pipe diameters.
