MS is martensitic stainless steel, and SS is austenitic stainless steel. There are obvious differences in their crystal structure, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.
MS vs SS Steel
MS obtains high strength of HRC50+ through rapid quenching, but its corrosion resistance is relatively weak and is usually used in high-strength working scenes such as knives and bearings. SS is a face-centered cubic structure with good corrosion resistance and formability, but it cannot be strengthened by heat treatment. It is often used in medical equipment and other fields. Its price is usually 20-30% more expensive than MS.
